摘要

This study examines the presence and importance of entertainment and pleasure at various moments in court life under the kings of Aragon, including prostitutes, managed by King Arlot, music, gambling, dancing and minstrels, investigating the increase in these activities throughout the 14th century and the associated expenditure. The mounting luxury and complexity of these activities is also explored, together with the ever-growing importance of spectacular elements such as animals, carriages, allegorical personifications and other interludes at coronations, weddings and royal entries, all aspects of the gradual glorification of the monarchy.
